Cherry Creek Golf Club in Greensburg, Pa., was originally built in 1994. Since then, the course has been redesigned and lengthened to nearly 6,200 yards from our back tees. We offer 4 sets of tee boxes to accomodate golfers of all skill levels plus added our new Tournament Tees, which offer an entirely new challenge to the golfer who can't decide whether to play our Championship Tees or Cherry Creek Tees.
We've always taken pride in our country club-style playing conditions available to the public year round. We offer players USGA specified bent grass greens, lush bent fairways, and thick rough, overseeded with rye. That will continue as it has in the past.
Widening landing areas, removing trees and clearing undergrowth during the renovation has added in helping our pace of play. The golf course is clearly marked for water, hazards and out of bounds.
You'll find lots of natural beauty here: gentle rolling terrain and a wooded setting, along with numerous ponds, streams and bunkers. All that combined with 18 magnificent holes has always made Cherry Creek a unique playing experience and a shotmaker's dream come true.
Our course is also a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, committed to preserving birds and wildlife in the area.
Our redesign has been created by an outstanding golf architect, Edward Beidel of Maryland, who has worked on many courses in Pennsylvania and New York, and is creating a new routing for our holes as well as many new challenges and tests on the course.
The new layout gets off to a fine start with three brand-new holes. Click here now to view the layout.
No. 1 will now be a par-4 instead of the previous par-3, a more exciting start for your round of 18. This new hole will be a slight dogleg right.
“The 2nd hole is going to be a dogleg left par-4 that will need a 200-yard carry to the fairway over a creek,” Bompiani says. “Then you'll need an approach shot to an elevated green surrounded by bunkers.”
The 3rd will be a par-3 as it was before but get ready for a new layout. You will now need a 130-yard shot from the back tees to a two-tiered green.
The new No. 6 is still a par-4 as it was before. “But there's a new tee box and a more strategic layout,” Bompiani said. “We're widening the fairwa
y and the existing cart path has been abandoned and will no longer be in play.”
The par-4 9th will be much easier to play because we're widening the fairway and removing some trees. “But all the water right and left will still be there,” Bompiani said.
On the back nine, your starting hole will be a par-4 instead of a par-3. More changes are in store as well on the 13th and 14th holes.
Players who loved our three closing holes will find that 16 and 17 will be as exciting as ever. But we're creating an amazing new finishing hole, a risk-reward possibility with a split fairway situation. That dramatic No. 18 will make for a wonderful cap-off to your round of 18 at Cherry Creek.
The new layout has been open since May '08 and has produced exciting and positive results.
